What is Islam

Islam can be described as a religion that encourages the oppressed to stand with dignity, courage, and justice. It teaches that true victory begins with victory over the soul: overcoming desire, ignorance, and wrongdoing. Before a person can win against others, they must first discipline themselves, winning against themselves, and Islam provides guidance for that.

The word Islam translates to submission, meaning submission to Allah, the one true God. Through history, humanity has been guided by prophets, and the final prophet is our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny. He is regarded as the best example for humanity. Through Allah, he delivered the Qur’an to humanity as guidance for the future, clarification of the past, and signs for the present.

He is not only a prophet but also a rasool, meaning a prophet entrusted with a book for humanity, similar to how Jesus was sent with scripture. Prophets are human beings like us, and they eventually pass away. Their physical life ends, even though their spiritual message continues.
